Wines Presented at Iron Sommelier 2017
The Periwinkle Foundation develops and provides programs that positively change the lives of children, young adults and families who are challenged by cancer and other life-threatening illnesses and are cared for at Texas Children’s Hospital.
Since The Periwinkle Foundation’s inception in 1983, pediatric oncologists have made great strides in improving the overall cure rate of children with cancer. Nearly 80 percent of children diagnosed with cancer now survive. While more children are surviving, successful treatment may leave them with mental or physical complications that can impact them for the rest of their lives.
Periwinkle is a community of healing through camps, arts and survivor programs, which are provided at no cost to children and families affected by cancer and other life-threatening illnesses and are cared for at Texas Children’s Hospital. Periwinkle programs serve more than 14,000 children, teens and families annually through a collaborative community of 20,000 supporters with a reach of more than 12 million impressions worldwide. Programs include Camp Periwinkle, Camp YOLO, Family Camp, Periwinkle Day Camp, the Long Term Survivor Program and the Periwinkle Arts In Medicine Program, which culminates each year in a traveling exhibition of art by children touched by cancer and blood disorders. Through camping, recreational and arts programming, Periwinkle provides opportunities for these special children and their families to heal emotionally, lead fuller lives and become stronger survivors.
